One thing that I love about Lake Tahoe ski resorts as a whole is that they are often less expensive than a room booked in one of the motels. You can often very cheap nightly or weekly rates in one of the upscale resorts or hotels and believe me when I tell you they will beat any chain motel room hands down.
If you read our other travel tips, you will know that tourists prefer different locations in Lake Tahoe depending on whether they need family lodging, singles lodging or whether they plan to ski or spend their time gambling in one of the casinos. That I will give you a list of the many different Lake Tahoe ski resorts that you can pick from in central locations that are very close to the gondolas, casinos and dining.
In any listing of comparisons of Lake Tahoe Ski vacation resorts, you will find Heavenly Ski Resort has the most reviews and comments. Reports indicate that Heavenly is the perfect resort for intermediate level skiers but doesn’t offer accommodations (what about lessons?) for beginners.

FOREST SUITES RESORT
One of the best things about Forest Suites Resort is its close proximity to Heavenly’s Gondola. It’s a great convenience that it’s within easy walking distance from the resort. Forest Suites Ski Resort is especially recommended by tourists that visited with a large group of friends or family because of the excellent dining possibilities in nearby restaurants and the nightlife and entertainment in the casinos. There’s no need for rental cars as all the entertainment that you need is a short walk away.
STARDUST LODGE
A short walk will get you to the Heavenly Gondola or the casino, it’s your decision. Lodging at the Stardust offers a kitchenette and a barbeque grill but you probably won’t use them because of the nice places to eat that are just across the street. This is an excellent place to stay in Lake Tahoe for senior citizens, families with children (including teens) as well as singles.
MARRIOT’S TIMBER LODGE
Some tourists don’t like the idea of lodging in a motel chain when in Lake Tahoe, but the Marriot’s Timber Lodge has much to offer. It’s located in Heavenly Village and right next to the Heavenly gondolas, which is a super central location for entertainment, skiing and nightlife in Lake Tahoe. There’s a movie theater located right outside the Marriot’s front door and even a supermarket within walking distance, so there’s no need to pack a car full of groceries for your trip.
