Oscoda Beaches Lakes and Vacation Ideas

The area around Oscoda Michigan and Oscoda beaches serves up some of the most scenic and peaceful beaches that are to be found in Northern Michigan. This probably explains why there have been love songs, poems and operas that are based on the area.

The beaches are a favorite with families on their own naturally beautiful merits but the local Chamber of Commerce did an excellent job in surrounding the beach with stuff that kids love.

We all know that it takes more than excellent fishing and stunning scenery to convince kids that mom and dad got their money’s worth on that Oscoda Beach all inclusive vacation package. Have no fear that the children will be singing the travel agent’s praises for a while after having a blast in the park.

  • Van Ettan Lake
  • Lake Huron
  • AuSable beach,
  • Cedar Lake

The city of Oscoda has done an amazing job of conveniently locating all the activities and entertainment close to the vacation rentals.

  • Rent canoes or kayaks and go paddling on the lake
  • Play basketball with the kids on the basketball court
  • Visit the skateboard park
  • Pack a picnic lunch or cook your meal outdoors on one of the grills
  • Take a cruise on the paddle wheel boat trip and enjoy the view on the AuSable. Make a note to return for a fall leaf tour!
  • Play in the sand on the beach or swim and splash in the water just like you did when you were a kid.

Fun beach vacations can disguise the fact that children are adding to their knowledge base and frankly I like the idea of something educational nearby when I go shopping for the best resorts in any given location. Oscoda beach has not just one but several educational tours that will be fun for the whole family and teach the kids a little something without making them feel that they are in the classroom.

  • Take a 22 mile ride that retraces the steps of the Chippewa Indians
  • Stop at the Visitor’s Center and view the Lumbermen's Monument
  • Take the children to see an actual nest of a bald eagle at Eagle's Nest Overlook
  • Visit the Yankee Air Force Museum
  • Visit Iargo Springs which is considered to be holy by our Native American ancestors. If the kids have energy to burn, take a walk down the steps (over 200) and see underground merging site of springs that join together to form cold water streams
  • Schedule your vacation for the time of the art festival that takes place in the summer on one of the Oscoda Beaches.

Located 4 miles outside of Oscoda is a small, sugar sand beach called Barefoot Beach. This small beach has playgrounds for the children, volleyball and horseshoe courts for a lively family game and friendly competition and a firepit that makes the best background in the world for a late night storytelling session where you can share the ghost stories that scared you to bits when you were young. There are eight, two bedroom Oscoda beachfront vacation rental cottages with kitchenettes and televisions that offer a stunning view of Lake Huron as well as easy access to the sand and water. This destination offers eight cottages, each of which are equipped with a kitchen and TV, and seven of the cottages house two bedrooms. Also available at Barefoot Beach are a playground, volleyball court, horseshoe court and bonfire pit.

Anyone that’s in the process of sorting through the travel brochures filled with information on things to do and see at different beaches will tell you that they much prefer to get their weekend beach getaway tips firsthand. Personal recommendations are much more reliable than those from a real estate agent whose only interest is in filling a vacancy at a hotel, motel or vacation rental home.
